The province of kwango acquires a charter and a roadmap to combat malnutrition

The provincial Government of Kwango organized a provincial conference in Kenge from 22 to 24 August 2017, with the technical and financial support of UNICEF, on the repositioning of nutrition as a development priority. This conference forms part of national efforts and commitments to scale up nutrition (SUN), aiming to create a multi-sectoral environment that is favourable to nutrition in Kwango. At the end of the three days’ work, its participants adopted a Provincial Charter incorporating different stakeholders’ commitments to the fight against malnutrition and agreed to establish a provincial multi-sectoral governance and coordination committee for the fight against malnutrition in Kwango.

World Breastfeeding Week in SUN Latin American Countries

Held under the slogan “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together”, World Breastfeeding Week highlights that breastfeeding provides the necessary nutrients for the growth, development and survival of children around the world. Various activities were organized throughout the whole of the Latin American continent during World Breastfeeding Week 2017. These included: free entry to breastfeeding clinics to provide information; information fairs and talks to share healthy breastfeeding practice; and information-giving for the users of existing services for expectant and nursing mothers.

The Philippines celebrates National Nutrition Month

In July 2017, people across the Philippines celebrated a National Nutrition Month with various activities across the country. Every year, a theme is chosen to highlight an important and timely concern on nutrition, as approved by the National Nutrition Council Technical Committee. For 2017, the focus of Nutrition Month was on the promotion of healthy diets under the theme, “Healthy diet, gawing habit – FOR LIFE!” to increase awareness of healthy diets which protect against both under and over nutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and certain types of cancer.
