On 26 July 2017,  the International Coalition of Advocates for Nutrition (ICAN) held a webinar to share information about the Global Financing Facility (GFF) and explore future opportunities for GFF impact on nutrition. The event also helped members of the Coalition better understand how the GFF might help coordinate civil society efforts in the future.

The GFF is an innovative pathfinder to funding for country-led efforts to improve the health of women, children, and adolescents. It was launched by former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, at the Third International Financing for Development Conference in 2015. Replenishment of the GFF Trust Fund will be held in 2018, at this time, donor countries and recipient countries will have the opportunity to mobilise resources for nutrition investments that improve women’s and children’s health.

1,000 Days, Action Contre Le Faim (ACF) and Action organised the webinar. Click here to register and watch a full recording.

New ACF report about the Global Financing Facility

During the webinar, ACF presented a new report titled, “Aid for Nutrition: Emerging financing mechanisms: where is the value for nutrition? A specific focus on GFF”, which represents the fourth report in Action Against Hunger’s Aid for Nutrition series. The report identifies that whilst GFF funding for nutrition is a welcome contribution to national programs, levels of funding are yet to address the overall funding gap. In this regard, the report encourages civil society to be an important partner in helping the GFF realise its potential for making important contributions to nutrition in coming years.
