About

The Convergence Hub of the SUN Movement specifically accommodates the needs of fragile and conflict-affected SUN Countries, as well as SUN Countries located outside of the SUN Movement’s concentrated regions.

Thirteen SUN Countries currently form the Convergence Hub. Ten of these are on the 2020 OECD list of fragile states: Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan, Papua New Guinea, and Tajikistan are included as they fall outside the areas covered by the four SUN Movement regional hubs.

The Convergence Hub is designed to:

Empower SUN Focal Points/Country Coordinators and multi-stakeholder platforms to prioritize focus and collaboration on nutrition issues within the humanitarian-development nexus, as reflected in SUN 3.0. Strategy.

Broker coordination in emergencies, including through the inclusion of national nutrition actors in humanitarian response plans.

Facilitate the strengthening ofnutrition within the emergency preparedness / response capacity of these SUN Countries and benefit the nutrition sector in the long term.

Hub priorities

a. Enhancing understanding of the Nexus. Both nutrition and the humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus are broad terms so the goal is to reach a shared understanding on what the HDP nexus approach actually means and how it impacts nutrition. At the country level, the SUN movement is acting as a broker and connecting the various entities working on Nexus.

b.Taking into account the unique challenges faced by these countries and the loss of development gains due to frequent natural or man-made disasters, the SUN movement focuses on supporting country focal points in ensuring that nutrition still remains high on national agendas.

c. Fostering learning between countries especially those that share similar contexts. This is being done by learning visits between countries so that the visiting SUN country can see how another country with similar contexts has overcome their challenges.

d. Capacity strengthening of SUN focal points via a range of activities which includes the buddy system, online training, connecting them to global experts etc.

e. Serving as the broker that connects various partners- many Convergence Hub countries don't have partners in the country due to the security situation. The SUN movement is serving as the broker, using its global networks alongside, to connect the country teams with donors and other stakeholders.
