Noble Nketia is the leading celebrity ambassador of Ghana’s Civil Society Association (CSA) – the Ghana Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Scaling up Nutrition. He is a Ghanaian gospel artiste with a successful music career spanning 13 years and several awards including the best gospel artiste of the year (two occasions) in the country.

The first meeting of the Global Panel meeting took place on 28th and 29th October 2013 in London. Co- chaired by former President Kufuor of Ghana and Prof Sir John Beddington, former UK Chief Scientific Advisor, the Panel agreed its aims and objectives, identified the key issues it should address, and developed a plan of activities for the first year.

During the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2013, the Safe Water for All (SWA) Chair and former President of Ghana H.E Kufuor co-chaired a roundtable breakfast meeting with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to discuss linkages between nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene.

The SUN Movement recognises that no one single sector can scale up nutrition alone. At the core of the Movement are nationally owned and ambitious plans to scale up nutrition by 43 countries, supported by four global networks- Donor, Business, Civil Society and UN agencies.

On 7 October 2013, the Republic of the Congo became the 43rd country to commit to scaling up nutrition with the SUN Movement.

The Bangladesh Civil Society Network for Promoting Nutrition (BCSNPN) was created on 8 September 2012 and an official launch of this network took place at the CIRDAP auditorium on 19 December 2012. This ceremony brought together around 90 representatives from different ministries, parliament, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP), National Nutrition Services (NNS), development partners, United Nations, international and local NGOs, research and academic institutions, professional bodies, associations and the media.

PANITA actively supported the Ministry of Health and other partners to organize activities at the national, regional and districts levels to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

The Ethiopia Civil Society Coalition (ECSC) – Ethiopia’s SUN CSA- contributed to an event held at Yekatit 12 Hospital in Addis Ababa. Save the Children, representing civil societies, joined the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, Ethiopian Pediatrics Society and other local and international organizations to mark World Breast Feeding Week.

The UN System Network for Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) held its first meeting in Africa from 26-28 August in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together experts from various UN agencies working on the continent to drive forward the fight against undernutrition.
